A fun fact about LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) is its discovery by Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann. Hofmann accidentally discovered the psychedelic properties of LSD on April 16, 1943, while working at the Sandoz pharmaceutical company. He had originally synthesized the compound in 1938 as part of his research on ergot alkaloids.
Hofmann's accidental exposure to LSD, which he described as a "psychedelic trip," marked the first intentional ingestion of the substance. This day, April 19, is now celebrated by some as "Bicycle Day" because Hofmann rode his bicycle home from the laboratory during his first LSD experience.
